The taste of wine depends on its temperature

One of the most common problems of not having a wine cellar at home is the temperature at which to serve the wine. The importance lies in the taste. The wine changes flavor depending among other things on its temperature. Tasting a glass of red wine at room temperature is not the same as drinking that same glass at 16ºC. This perfect temperature is only achieved with a wine cellar at home.

At Cavanova we work to offer a wide range of products that promote excellence in your winemaking experience. The correct temperature at which wine is stored, served and drunk is key to its proper enjoyment.

This temperature should vary according to parameters such as sweetness, acidity and tenacity. The following is detailed according to the type of wine the temperature at which it should be:

Sparkling and icewine: from 5ºC to 6 ºC

Sweet white: 6 ° C

Dry young: from 7ºC to 10 ºC

White aging: from 10 ºC to 12 ºC

Young reds: from 12 ºC to 15 ºC

Sweet reds: from 13 ºC to 15 ºC

Reserve red: from 16ºC to 18ºC

Crianza reds: from 18ºc to 20ºC

Porto and generous: from 18ºc to 20ºC

For general purposes, the temperature should be higher in red wines than in white wines and should increase as the years of aging increase.

The cold enhances the effervescence and moderates the sweetness and acidity, which is why it is advisable for white and sparkling wines. Taking the wine too cold we lose its nuances and its qualities as it does not release the tannins. A wine at too much temperature becomes too acidic and even unpleasant, both on the nose and in the mouth.

While a higher temperature increases the intensity of the wine, alcohol moderates the bitterness and enhances its aromas, making it better for red wines and enhancing the qualities of the wines with the highest aging.

Keeping wine at room temperature is a serious mistake, as temperatures tend to rise more and more. At room temperature, especially in summer, the wine will have lost its original flavor and the investment in a good wine both by the winery and by the buyer will be wasted whatever the wine.

In addition to the temperature itself, conditions such as light and sun and humidity greatly influence the flavor of the wine.

Another very important factor to keep in mind is time. The wine needs to be aerated and adapted to the environment to maximize its yield. The abrupt changes of temperature and that the wine has been a long time at an inadequate temperature also worsens its quality at the time of enjoying it.

To favor that the temperature adapts as much as possible to the wines, the bithermal wine cellars allow to adjust two different temperatures within the same equipment, which makes them ideal for the coexistence of red and white wines. Check our website for some of our products with this feature such as the double temperature wine cellar CV090DT  with a temperature range of 5-12º for white and 10-20º for red wines.
